Hey all!
For all of you who don’t know, I had nose surgery (couldn’t tell by the title) for my inability to breath easily and effortlessly through my nose. Anyone in the Oregon area seeking to get their nose done, I highly recommend Dr. Skarada at Willamette Ear Nose and Throat (503-581-1567). Dr. Skarada is what ALL doctors should be: Cool, Easy to talk to, upbeat, and funny.
Anyway, the surgery went well. The actual surgery was called: Septoplasty and Bilateral submucosal resection of inferior turbinates. Which I think in Yiddish means: nose renovation with wall paper, a few sconces and a fresh coat of paint…
The surgery was really quick and I drank about 5 apple juices after surgery (I get shaky if I don’t keep a certain level of natural sugars in me). Once I was “recovered” enough I made my way home (My mom was extremely generous to help me and my wife. She was so completely awesome through the whole thing, she is one of the truly selfless people I know and she was almost pre-cognitive about mine and my family’s needs and she asked nothing in return). From there I spent the next few days on my love seat with my head at 45 degrees and my legs above my heart to encourage healing. Mom brought over movies to watch and we vegged for two days while I healed.
The doctor (Dr. Skarada) was nice enough to slap some tubes in my nose to allow me to breathe and use my cpap. Unfortunately due to the pain and fear of waking with a face mask full of blood, I didn’t wear my cpap. Wouldn’t have made too much of a difference anyway since I was only sleeping in 3 - 4 spurts or whenever my poor wife would fall of the couch (she was being sweet and didn’t want to be away from me).
If you can stand looking at this; you can actually see the tubes…
Anyway, Friday rolls around and I go to get the hardware removed and decided to burn the good doctor a CD of all my “Better” tunes. He came in and as he was removing the sponges and tubes they both felt as if they were being taken from my toe nails and through my nose.. Not in a bad way, I just didn’t know that they would be that long.
Now I don’t have to wear the annoying nose bra thing that held the gauze so I wouldn’t bleed on everyone and thing.
Since the removal of the junk, they have me doing this weird salt rinse thing that comes in a box followed by some peroxide and then an antibiotic ointment in each nostril. It’s also important to mention that when my sense of smell came back it’s been a bitty sweet experience.. I found out that the antibiotic pills my doc prescribed smell horrible… I have a feeling my total sense of smell hasn’t totally healed yet…
Anyway, I hope I covered everything… I am on a pain pill now and a bit on the loopy side…
